Design Classics pt 3: Vitra Eames DAR

A relatively new category on my blog: Design Classics. I am a true design lover and collector, and so I thought it would be a nice idea to tell a little more about our design items. How and when we bought them, etcetera. Today we go back in time and discuss our Vitra Eames DAR, because it was actually the first design item I bought. I still remember the excitement of buying an item I had saved for, it was so much fun!

Let me show you the first picture I took with it for my blog:

Needless to say my (photography) style was a little different back then, haha!

I had to look it up, but it was june 2014, so 4 years ago. I bought this chair secondhand via Marktplaats (a dutch online marketplace) and had to drive to the woman that was selling it. If I remember correctly I paid €250 for it, and I had never spent that amount of money on an interior item before. It felt ridiculous and amazing at the same time. I remember putting this chair in our trunk and it felt so weird to have it there unprotected. Since I bought it secondhand, there was no packaging. A downside, but usually I love buying secondhand because a. good for the environment and b. usually design items are a bit cheaper so you save some money.

This chair has seen every room in our house already, I love in in the bedroom by the desk as well. I think it’s safe to say that the 1st design item we ever bought will stay with us forever.

That’s the main reason I love design items: they are sustainable. Because you have to save money for them, you think about purchasing a lot longer and so these items will last longer than an impulsive buy. And while this Vitra Eames DAR might not be the most spectacular design item in our house, it’s an item that matches every interior style and so it can grow with us for a long time coming.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!
x, Marrit
