The answer to the question why I changed my Instagram feed is pretty simple: because I wanted to. But like most things in life things are usually a bit more complicated than that. I’m hoping to inspire you with my story today, about simply doing the things you love.
I joined Instagram a couple of years ago and it’s my favorite Social Media by far. I started like everyone else, simply taking photos with my phone of everything I liked and post it. But as my followers grew, I took on a more professional way of handling Instagram. Nowadays most of my photos are made with my professional camera instead of my iPhone, and I found myself more and more thinking about what time I should post, and if my followers would like the post. And since my life changed completely since I became a mom, it was inevitable that my Instagram feed would change as well. But I found myself struggling with this topic. And now that I’ve made a decision on this, I realize struggling with this is pretty much a ridiculous thing to do. So I am sharing my story with you today.
I went from an Instagram feed looking like this:
To this:
I went from an all-white interior feed to a more colorful, more lifestyle like feed. And why? Like I said before: because I wanted to. I realized that if I can’t even post photos on my Instagram because I want to post them, why would I even Instagram at all?
When our daughter was born, now a little over a year ago, I wanted to include her in my Instagram feed. But I gave myself a rule: 2 interior photos between every photo of Mia. Because I was afraid people would start unfollowing me. They would think I changed too much. The truth is, people will think something of you no matter what. I sometimes unfollow people as well, for various reasons. It’s not personal! You simply can’t make everyone happy. We can only make ourself happy, by doing what we love. So whenever I have a photo of our daughter I want to share, I simply do. I don’t count wether I have enough interior photos next to it, I don’t check my feed. It’s my Instagram, my content, my party.
The other part of this change, is that our interior changed quite a bit. I’ve added more color in our house – like our dark blue bedroom and green attic. Of course this will change the look of my Instagram, and I am loving it.
And the last, final part is I love fashion. And I’ve been neglecting this part of my life for Instagram, and I don’t know why. Perhaps I was shy to be in front of the camera, I don’t know. And while I still prefer being the photographer behind the camera, I like inspiring you with my outfit on Instagram. I like getting a bit more personal now, where you can see me. And I am not the type of person that will share everything about her life, I do like sharing more than I used to.
The overall conclusion is do whatever you like with your Instagram, please do. It’s your account, it should be the reflection of what you love doing. It’s not always about the prettiest photo with the best camera – sometimes an iPhone picture of a great moment is best. Do what you love! In my experience people will love that the most – because it’s authentic and it’s real. People like seeing real. I know I do!
So to end this “motivational speech”, a photo of Mia and me. Not styled, with all those bottles in the front. But a photo I like, and it should be on my Instagram. Me holding our daughter, who I love the most in the whole wide world. A moment that is part of my life, and therefor should be part of my Instagram. Thank you for reading!
