New bedroom plaid & painted our closet

An update of our bedroom! In the last weeks we made some changes and I can finally show you. We added a new beautiful pink velvet plaid and I also painted our walk-in closet.

I LOVE big plaids that cover the whole bed. And especially a pink velvet plaid was on my wishlist for a long time. The best part however of this plaid is that it’s warm, but still breathes. We’ve had some plaids over the years and waking up in the middle of the night sweating, is not fun at all. And because we live in an old house (1930’s), our bedroom is very cold so a plaid is necessary. Needless to say we are very happy with this latest addition! I feel it really adds to be “boutique hotel” sphere we already had in our bedroom.

Our bedroom used to be 2 rooms, the previous owner of our house made it into 1 big room. We love that, because it gave us the opportunity to create a walk-in closet. At the time we bought our house we needed to do a huge renovation (I coincidentally just put up a before&after post, see it HERE), and because white was still our go-to color, we chose the cheapest IKEA PAX closet in white. Nothing wrong with that, but as my love for color and textures grew, it felt kinda, well, boring. So I decided to give it a paint job!

We went from a white closet, to a VERY dark tone so it needed some getting used to. As a matter of fact, I decided to lighten the second layer of paint, as I felt it was a little TOO dark. I sadly didn’t take a proper photo in-between the two layers, but half a jar of white paint made all the difference. While at first I felt we installed a black high gloss kitchen in our bedroom, now it’s the right shade. The high gloss kitchen look wasn’t exactly what we were going for, ahum..

The color I used was Mahogany by Farrow & Ball. But as I said, I lightened the second layer so it’s name is really not that relevant anymore. And while the white closet wasn’t so bad, I feel this creates a lot more depth for this corner.

All dresses you see hanging on our closet are for sale in my vintage shop Variety Str, in case you were wondering :)

I would almost forget about another change in our bedroom; the 2 nightstands we bought a while back. We struggled with this topic for some time and eventually ordered these from IKEA. The big size, meaning we could finally properly add some beautiful items next to our bed. Some books, some lights, even some flowers! This change is definitely for the better.

So that’s my little update! Thank you for reading and have a great day.

Love, Marrit

PS. The plaid was gifted to me by MADE, everything else (paint + nightstands) I bought myself. I only work with brands I love.
